Wake girl session, France

By Carole Marmonier

It is quite easy to talk about the 4th MISS, 100% girls wakecamp. It is simply THE best week-end of the year.

The MISS takes place every year at Condrieu cable ski (30minutes South of Lyon, France), September 13-14th 2008. The cable is tight and its carriers are dedicated to the ladies for 2 full days. We all sleep in cozy little chalets by the lake and have an amazing local crew of riders / cooks / DJ; everything we can ask for...

But the marvel in the MISS comes from the riders themselves: 40 young women coming from every corner of France, to share a cable for the love of riding.

Each year we have both beginner and returning riders and it doesn’t take long for everyone to feel comfortable with each other. All the riders catch up on what is happening at their usual riding spots, with their local crews and show each other their new girl-specific riding gear. We discuss far away wake spots, we plan future trips, exchanged trick advices and compared biceps sizes ;-) Sharing our love of riding and meeting new friends is what the MISS is all about...

But chatting is not enough! So we hit the water and don’t put the handle down for 2 days straight...

Every year the beginner group progresses quickly. They first started with a round of the cable on a kneeboard in order to get used to the starting dock and the corners, and then they try the boards. Soon, the failed dock starts became a distant memory.

The coaches this year were Lauriane Masson and Estelle Tuaz (2 of our best french female boat wakeboarders). Pooky, from the Barcares teleski, was a guest coach this year to advise the girls on the obstacles. It was an amazing coaching staff!

Each girl received specific individual coaching and was cheered on by all the other riders. As a result, everyone’s confidence was boosted. Soon, each girl was ripping up all the obstacles with spectacular progress on the kickers, sliders and boxes.

A video analysis was also organized. It was a great opportunity for every rider to see themselves on the water, get new tips and improve their skills.

The Saturday night party was a total blast, listening to DJ Clem and having lots of fun. On Sunday, the 'skate spirit' contest was put on by Akonite. It is a grassroots wakeskate contest open to all levels of riding and different styles.

The only downside was the weather: no bikini pictures were taken this year, sorry guys! But even in full wetsuits and beanies, the shared love of riding was something to be reckoned with! The girls made it clear to everybody that the level of female riding is rising quickly. This year, the MISS was fully booked several weeks in advance, in particular due to the support of Kustom Footwear and the FFSN (French Water Ski Federation). When a flat 360 used to be enough to be noticed in 2001, the girls are now learning to block and jump, throwing inverts, raileys and krypts...

As usual, the girls were given tons of free goodies thanks to Kustom flip-flops, Roxy accessories, perfume from Les Ettes and technical beauty products from Tecare.

We will soon have a movie ready but you can check our pictures onhttp://wakegirlsession.canalblog.com

MISS 2009 will happen 12-13 September 2008 (cable to be determined), and we are looking partnerships for a "MISS Tour" to visit as many cables as we can.

Long live the MISS ! Thanks to all the participants, the organizers (Sand, Béné, Caco et Mél), the Condrieu cable ski and our sponsors (Kustom, FFSN, AFW, Akonite, Kalluz, les Ettes, Tecare)..
