Nov 7th 2008 - Throw it Down is finally launched!
Here we are! Hear us roar!
Throw it down launches our female wakeboarding site; invented, designed, and written by female wakeboarders. We are super stoked about it!
The news feed will keep you up to date on everything that is going on in the wakeboard season and off-season, in Ontario, Canada and around the world.
Our goal is to unite and encourage all females from beginners to destroyers. We are here for girls who are interested in trying wakeboarding for the first time, or thinking about taking their boarding to the next level and entering the competitive circuit and even for the circuit veterans who are trying to get recognized by both sponsors and media. Either way. welcome! To all girls ready to throw it down!

Sept 26th - Wake Up and Vote
Wakeboarders and wakeskaters joined at this event for a great cause. Throw it Down rider Erika Langman worked with Johnny Bonney to host an event that encourages students to get out there and vote. Wake up and vote was created and held by the Student federation at the University of Ottawa and is an awesome event as it encourages us all to vote and not to mention it is one of the funnest rail set ups out there. Throw it down riders Ally Boothroyd, Erika Langman, Karo Legault, and Jocelyn Boileau braved the cold to support the cause for the girls. Top spot went to our rider Erika who said it was the toughest rail competitions she’s entered in all summer! We would like to thank the University of Ottawa for hosting such a rad event, and all the sponsors: Fokus, Slaysh, Level 13, Redbull, Oneill, Sleepwell management, Labatt, and ProAm Productions.

Sept 4th-7th - Wakeboard World Championships
This year the Wakeboarding World championships were held in Oklahoma City. Throw it Down had some riders in attendance to show what we females can do on the world stage. The top spot in the female pro division was taken by Nicola Butler of the UK followed closely by Dallas Friday and Melissa Marquardt. Aslo killing it in the pro women was Australia’s Hayley Smith, USA’s Shelby Kantar and Laura Lohrmann. The junior women division was dominated by Throw it down ripper Anna Hajek taking gold. We at Throw it Down would like to give a huge shout out to all our Canadian boys with their incredible showing with Rusty Malinoski taking World Champion, Aaron Rathy taking silver and Quebec’s Oli Derome with an awesome fourth in pro mens. BC rider James Balzer also killed it with a fourth place finish in the pro wakeskate while Raph Derome took silver in the Jr Mens wakeboard. GO CANADA!

Sept 1st - Rad Galz Clinic with Team Fun
Erika Langman and Ally Boothroyd team up with Sarah Johnson from Rad Galz to instruct Team Fun's annual girl clinic. This year went off better than ever. Ally started off the morning right with some yoga in the sunlight beside beautiful Pigeon Lake to some soothing electronic beats. Then the girls loaded up the X-Star and headed out for the day, the lake co-operated and everyone wished they could ride in the girl filled X-Star and we all know that Courtney's baby boy Deakin was the luckiest dude on the lake. Each and every girl landed a new trick and everyone was stoked to watch Erika put on a demo ride to show what girls can really do. Special thanks to Team Fun and Buckeye Marine for providing the boat for the day.

August 22nd-24th- Girls Day Out!
Started by Julia Staffen and Lauren Pollard in the summer of 2005, the event has grown and has become better and better every year. Girls Day Out is an all girls wakeboard clinic and competition, with all female coaches, organizers and riders. Coaches this year included Kayle McMillen, Laura Sturch, Julia Staffen, Robin Peever as well as a number of other volunteers. Our goals are; to get girls stoked about wakeboarding, skill progression and introduce them to the idea of competing. The competitions have three divisions sorted by skill level; beginner, intermediate and advanced to make the competition more fun and fair for everyone. The competition is aimed at showing the girls how wakeboard competitions work and to introduce them to the rules in a laid back, fun and friendly atmosphere. This year our sponsors included; Lost Enterprises, OBrien, Gordon Bay Marina, Malibu Boats, Jet Pilot, Oakley, Cover Girl and Straightline Ropes and Handles.

August 9th-10th - Billibong Sisterhood Session
Leslile Sparkes, Kayle Mcmillan, Laura Duke, Sunni Ball and Peitra Bajsili came out to brave the rain once again. Not letting it get them down the girls tore it up in the rain and hale (literally). Sunday was a gougeous day and all the girls had a great time basking in the sun, wake surfing, learning new tricks and hitting the slider park. It was another great billabong event that sent all the girls home excited about wakeboarding. Thanks to Ally who showed her support and learned a few tricks of her own. Don`t forget to sign up for next years Sisterhood session which will promise to be better than the last.

This year throw it down riders all represented showing some of Ontario's highest level of female riding since the battle days of Tiff Finlay and Sunni Anne Ball. Up and coming riders Kelsey Chiappa and Emily Tenwesteneind showed veterans Lara Harmon, Leslie Sparks, Kayle McMillen and Erika Langman that they will have a run for their money in the next few years.

July 24th- 27th - Wakestock World Cup -WWA # 3
Wakestock weekend is certainly part of the summer that everyone looks forward to! A full four days of wakeboarding, wakeskating, Moto X, winching (cable this year!), partying, concerts, skateboarding, skimboarding…. You name it! Thursday the amateurs had beautiful weather and competed for some awesome prizes. Competitors included Lara Harmon, Ally Boothroyd, Jocelyne Boileau, Emily Tenwestneiend, Jordan Dowding, Sarah Martian, Peitra Bajsili and many more! Hopefully the percentage of girls riding will continue to go up each year.
Over the weeked the girls braved some pretty intense thunder storms but that was not enough to bring down our pro women! Canadian throw it down veterans Kayle McMillen, Leslie Sparkes, Laura Duke, Erika Langman, Ashley Leugner, and Marie-Lynn Ouellette went head to head with pro circuit riders Barrett Pearlman and Amber Wing. It was intense competition and Erika Langman, Ashley Leugner, Barrett Pearlman and Amber Wing advanced to the finals. As always the finals took place first thing on Sunday morning and die hard women’s wakeboarding fans were there to cheer them on. Throw it down rider Amber Wing took the title, followed by Barrett Pearlman and Canada’s own Erika Langman took the bronze. Congrats to Erika!

July 20th - Sarnia Wake Up Call
Erika Langman and Ally Boothroyd joined Team Fun for the long trip to Sarnia to show the South Side how we do it up in lake country. Erika was on the main stage throwing down both in the pool and behind the Mastercraft X-Star on the roughest water we have seen this year. Erika showed the pro men that she throws down hard and placed third as the only female competing to Dylan Rivait and Mike Maynard. Meanwhile, Ally sessioned the pool for demonstration day and snapped some epic shots on the day of the competition. Overall the event went well and a bunch of money was raised for big brothers and sisters at this years Wake Up Call.

July 12th- July 13th - Billibong Sisterhood Sessions
Leslie Sparkes, Kayle McMillen and Laura Duke headed up this great girls only event thrown twice a season at basecamp. Eventhough the weather on the first day was not ideal the girls still came out and threw down. One thing we do know about the girls that come out for these sessions is that they are dedicated to ride rain or shine. Not letting the weather dampen our spirits all the girls had a great time and were more than thrilled to see the sun come out on Sunday! We would like to thank Cathrine and Megan from Billabong for showing your support for girls riding and bringing great cheering sections! Check out our video on youtube under basecamp.

June 11th - Wake Dans Rue
Wake Dans Rue was an awesome event held in the streets of Montreal that showcased the best of what our French Canadian ladies had to offer. The girls were out in full force with Throw it down rippers such as Karo Legault, Jocelyne Boileau and Camélia Barrière as well as Annie Cardinal, and a few other ladies. Although competition was fierce we girls (as always) just wanted to have fun! The girls killed it and all the spectators were super impressed to see the ladies hitting the setup especially when it ended in an intense battle! All of the girls were stoked to get together and hit such a fun set up setup and of course we are all very proud of each and every girl that came out. We would like to thank the principal sponsors, Oneill, Piktur, and Coors Light.

This is the fourth year of the KLWO and the Throw it Down Girls represented! While dodging the raindrops, Ally Boothroyd, and Emily Tenwesteneind finished a spectacular first and second. Leslie Sparkes came down to put on an incredible demo ride to show how a pro girl really rips. Ally even set her sights on the boys in the Wakeskate division and finished in the top half putting some local riders to shame. Throw it down would love to thank Brad at Kawartha Lakes Wakeboard Company for putting on a super fun event.

May 31st - June 1st - Summer for Sick Kids
Summer for Sick Kids was an incredible event again this year with all proceeds going to Sick Kids Hospital; there is no better way to start up the summer with a sweet rail jam at Board Sports in down town Toronto. This years event was super special with the charity bar night where the whos who of Ontario waterskiing and wakeboarding showed up to party for a good cause and listen to Toronto's own The Next Best Thing rocked the main stage all night long. Ally Boothroyd represented the girls with bright pink hair and some rail destruction showing that girls can winch with the best of them. Kayle McMillen dominated the combo (aframe, funbox, wedge) set up at the charity event. The entire event raised over thirteen thousand dollars and was a huge success. Throw it down would like to thank Summer Watersports and Team Fun for an awesome event.

Asian Wakepark Championships
The First ever Asian Wake Park championships took place this May and throw it down rider Erika Langman had the opportunity to judge alongside industry favourite Pat Panakos and Clay Fletcher. Riders from Thailand, Korea, Signapore, Japan and the Philippines all threw down amazing runs with a variety of air and obstacle tricks. The hardest category to judge were believe or not the open women, with girls like Miki A, Joyce Recto and Jeena Lopez landing big raleys, switch 3s, huge gab transfers, and super techy slides. In the end Miki took the cake waking away with some cash and a celebrated at one of the craziest parties of the year!
